Newcastle United may be searching for a midfielder after Sandro Tonali's £100m move to Tottenham, but they already have a ready-made replacement in Lewis Miley. The 20-year-old has made 80 first-team appearances for the Magpies, scoring six goals and adding eight assists, and has learned from Tonali over the past three years.
Miley's Rise at Newcastle
Miley, who turned 20 in May, has been identified as a top future player and now is the time to hand him the keys to the midfield. He has all the tools to control the center of the park and the vision to pull the strings in Eddie Howe's side. His experience on the biggest stage matches that of Tottenham's Lucas Bergvall, who is three months older but has 78 games for Spurs, with two goals and nine assists.
Newcastle's Transfer Plans
Newcastle have already made three signings this summer but need a goalkeeper, full-back, striker, and midfielder. They have been linked with Monaco's Lamine Camara and Spurs' Lucas Bergvall, but baulked at the asking price for the Swede. While new faces are needed, the club should not overlook Miley's talent already in the dressing room.
Comparison with Bergvall
Bergvall has impressed in the Premier League, but Miley has similar experience and a higher goal tally. Newcastle's recruitment team is working hard to add more signings before the window closes on September 1, but Miley could be the answer to replacing Tonali's role without a costly transfer.
