New Season 5 Episodes Released
Just this month, brand new episodes for Season 5 have been released, with the first five episodes currently available to watch on BBC iPlayer. Fresh instalments will also be released every weekday at 10.45am on BBC One, before being made available on BBC iPlayer, with around 15 expected in total.
The first episode of the new season takes viewers to Liverpool and explores how expert witnesses helped solve the murder of 28-year-old Ashley Dale, who was found with a gunshot wound in the backyard of her house in the Old Swan area of the city.
Series Overview and Viewer Reactions
An official synopsis reads: 'How some of the UK’s most serious and complex cases were solved by the expertise of a band of unsung heroes – the expert witnesses. Gripping true crime stories.'
Previously sharing news of the series, Thames Valley Police wrote on Facebook: 'New BBC Expert Witness episodes released today highlight TVP investigations. Four new episodes from the BBC's Expert Witness series shine a spotlight on just some of the amazing work carried out by our officers and staff every day. The episodes feature the case of serial child abuser Robert Frid as well as the murders of David Watkins and Edwin Hiles, and the manslaughter of Joanna Simpson. All of the episodes are now available on BBC iPlayer and they will air live on BBC One at 10:45am over the coming weeks.'
Many viewers admitted they could not wait to watch the series, with one true crime fan taking to TikTok to share their excitement. They added: 'Some are well known cases and some you might not have heard of. They are all quite good and they're only half an hour. If you've not seen the other 15 episodes that are on there give them a watch, there's some interesting ones on there.'
One person replied: 'I absolutely love that I watched it for years.' Another commented: 'I started watching that yesterday. I don't remember about the evidence that convicted Roy Whiting. Amazing science.'
Expert Witness is available to stream on BBC iPlayer.
