Leaked images of a special edition Nintendo Switch 2 console, celebrating 40 years of The Legend of Zelda, have hinted at a release date for the upcoming Ocarina of Time remake. The console, draped in green and gold, is expected to launch alongside the remake on November 12, according to fans and leakers.
Leaked Console Design
The packaging for the new console was leaked by Brazilian journalist 'Necro' Felipe Lima, Editor-in-Chief for Universo Nintendo. Lima shared images of the console and a fresh Switch 2 Pro Controller, showing a design filled with nods to the franchise's history.
The packaging features an unreleased logo celebrating the 40th anniversary, marking the original NES release in Japan in 1986. It displays the console in docked and handheld modes, as well as themed Joy-Con 2 and Pro Controller. The right Joy-Con 2 is green, while the left is grey with a Triforce logo. The dock is covered in interlocking triangles, with a larger Triforce in the center, referencing the Triforce of Courage, Power, and Wisdom.
Pro Controller Details
The Pro Controller's right grip is green, transitioning to a black and gold design with a Zelda emblem. The left side is plain black, fading from a golden triangle decal. Lima also pointed out a nod to the original Zelda game on the back of the controller, featuring Link from the NES game and a thrown sword.
Lima anticipates a Zelda anniversary segment in an upcoming Nintendo Direct, predicting the September showcase will include a gameplay reveal, the console and controller unveiling, and possibly a trailer for the movie adaptation.
Ocarina of Time Remake Release Date
Fans previously speculated the remake would launch on November 12, ahead of the Christmas season, due to Amiibos allegedly planned for that date but now delisted. Leakers insist on November 12, which would give it a week before Grand Theft Auto 6 launches. Launching a new console edition six weeks before Christmas alongside a remake of its greatest game could prove a masterstroke.
