Phuket tops list of most overcrowded tourist destinations

A new study by MoneyTransfers.com has identified the most overcrowded tourist destinations across the globe, with a Thai hotspot topping the list. Phuket in Thailand has 118 tourists for every local resident, making it the most crowded destination worldwide.

Thailand dominates the rankings

Phuket is known for its premier beach destinations, including Kata and Karon beaches, but visitors may find them heaving, especially during peak season. Thailand also secured two other spots in the top 10: Pattaya and Krabi.

European hotspots also crowded

Heraklion in Greece has 22 tourists per local resident. Venice, Italy, has 21 tourists per resident and is considering implementing a tourist fee to manage crowds. Rhodes attracts more than 20 visitors per local. Miami, USA, rounds off the list with 18 tourists per local.
