Netflix has just released the first trailer for its upcoming thriller The Last House, starring Hollywood icons Greta Lee and Wagner Moura, and fans are already captivated. The film centers on a family of four who become inexplicably trapped inside their home with no escape, as torrential rain falls ceaselessly outside. They grow convinced a supernatural force is confining them, their neighbors, and perhaps the entire planet. Days stretch into years as the family adapts to their bizarre existence, questioning what sinister presence lies beyond their sealed doors and self-healing windows.
Director and Cast Insights
Director Louis Leterrier, known for Now You See Me and Lupin, told Netflix's Tudum: "Food is dwindling, and this family has to rely on each other and try to understand what comes next. What's locking them in, and how will they survive?" Actress Greta Lee added: "Growing up, my favorite things to watch and read were survivalist stories with a twist. So I was immediately drawn to this story. I love the questions this movie asks about our world and how we choose to live in it."
Cast and Fan Reactions
Joining Lee and Moura as parents Ann and Jason are Riley Chung and Noah Alexander Sosnowski as their children Ruth and Graham, with Emma Ho and Gabriel Barbosa portraying the roles as the film progresses. Following the trailer's release on June 15, it rapidly attracted millions of views. One fan on YouTube said: "This looks VERY interesting. It's got my attention, alright!" Another commented: "I've never been so excited for a new Netflix movie in years." On X, a user wrote: "This looks insanely tense Greta Lee + Wagner Moura trapped in a house? I'm locked in already."
However, some viewers expressed concern that The Last House could feel uncomfortably familiar for those who lived through COVID-19 lockdowns. A YouTuber noted: "I was quarantined for 3 years during Covid. This is triggering. I'm very curious on how this movie goes." Another added: "Netflix said 'what if 2020 but make it a thriller' and honestly we deserve this."
The Last House premieres on Netflix on August 7.
