Liverpool could be on the verge of signing a player compared to club legend Sadio Mane, with Bournemouth manager Andoni Iraola offering a glowing endorsement. The Reds are among several top European clubs interested in RB Leipzig winger Yan Diomande, who has been drawing comparisons to the former Liverpool star.
Yan Diomande: The Next Sadio Mane?
Yan Diomande, aged just 19, has taken the Bundesliga by storm with 13 goals and 10 assists in 36 appearances, playing on both flanks. His explosive pace and dribbling ability have caught the attention of Liverpool, Paris Saint-Germain, Real Madrid, and Manchester United. Journalist Salia Drame of Abidjan Sports compared Diomande to Sadio Mane, stating: "His ability to beat defenders, his drive, and his comfort in one-on-one situations are reminiscent of Sadio Mane at the peak of his powers." Drame also likened his hold-up play to Eden Hazard.
Early Career and Resilience
Born in 2006 in Abidjan, Ivory Coast, Diomande moved to the US at 15 to train at DME Academy in Florida. After unsuccessful trials at Rangers and Olympiacos, he joined Leganes in November 2024 before moving to Leipzig for £20m a year later. Drame praised his resilience: "Yan comes from a working-class neighbourhood in Abidjan... reaching such a level is a testament to great resilience and a strong work ethic."
Liverpool's Prospects and Price Tag
Diomande has expressed his desire to play for Liverpool, saying: "I want to play at Anfield... my father's dream is to see me play there." However, Leipzig are reluctant to sell, with chairman Oliver Mintzlaff insisting he won't leave "whatever price is offered." Reports suggest an offer exceeding £87m could tempt them, especially if Diomande impresses at the World Cup. Drame believes Diomande has the potential to win the Golden Boy award and become a global superstar, potentially following in the footsteps of Didier Drogba for Ivory Coast.
