GTA Online to Continue After GTA 6, Take-Two Says

Take-Two Interactive has confirmed that GTA Online will continue to receive support after the launch of GTA 6, addressing speculation about the future of the multiplayer mode.

Ongoing Support Confirmed

During Take-Two's Q1 fiscal 2027 earnings call, CEO Strauss Zelnick reiterated that the current version of GTA Online will keep being updated. 'Generally speaking, our update cadence for GTA Online has been pretty stable,' Zelnick told analysts. 'Some of the updates have been amazing, and some have been less successful, but generally speaking, consumers really love them.'

'But the cadence hasn't really changed and we do apply significant resources to that, and we do expect to support GTA Online going forward,' he added.

Implications for GTA 6 Online

Zelnick's comments suggest that if GTA 6 includes an online component, it will be a separate entity rather than a replacement for the existing GTA Online, similar to how Overwatch 2 replaced its predecessor. This means GTA Online 1 is unlikely to be shut down or heavily integrated with GTA 6 content.

Rockstar has confirmed GTA 6 will launch as a single-player experience on November 19, 2026, with any online aspects expected to come later. The exact nature of GTA 6's online mode remains unannounced.

Marketing Plans Ahead

Zelnick also teased upcoming announcements for GTA 6, describing the Netflix gameplay reveal on August 27 as 'one of the hors d'oeuvres.' Speaking to GamesIndustry.biz, he said, 'there's appetisers, main course, and dessert to follow,' indicating more reveals are on the way.

The online component is likely to be a major revenue driver, but Take-Two appears in no hurry to unveil it fully.
