Google is marking its 28th birthday with a nostalgic doodle drawn from its early years. The search engine was founded in September 1998 by Stanford University PhD students Larry Page and Sergey Brin.
A global tech giant
Nearly three decades on, Google is one of the biggest companies in the world. Parent firm Alphabet Inc has a market value of about $4.2trillion (£3.2trillion), topped only by Nvidia and Apple. It processes between 8.5billion and 14billion searches every day and holds a roughly 90% share of the global search engine market.
Birthday doodles through the years
Google has celebrated previous birthdays with a series of doodles. These include its first-ever logo for its 27th birthday in 2025, a doodle for its 23rd birthday in 2021, another for its 22nd birthday in 2021, a design for its 14th birthday in 2012, a doodle reading “You are 10!” from September 27, 2008, and its 4th birthday doodle from 2002.
