Capcom has strongly hinted that a sequel to its sci-fi shooter Pragmata is on the way, following strong sales. During the company's latest earnings call, corporate officer Yoshikazu Shimauchi said "the likelihood of a sequel is high," as reported by Bloomberg.
Pragmata has sold over 2.5 million copies since its April launch, a notable achievement for a new single-player IP. By comparison, Resident Evil Requiem has surpassed 8 million units since February. The success of Pragmata, along with catalogue titles, helped Capcom's operating profit rise 66.9% year-on-year to 41,054 million yen for the quarter ending June 30, 2026.
Sequel prospects and development timeline
Shimauchi attributed Pragmata's momentum to pre-release marketing and the appeal of its lead character, Diana, noting that sales exceeded internal expectations. While a sequel appears almost certain, its release may be years away. Pragmata itself endured a development cycle of over seven years. A sequel would likely arrive more quickly but still take four to five years, meaning it may not appear until at least 2030, possibly as a primarily next-gen title.
Capcom has other priorities, including a new Resident Evil game every year, and has yet to deliver a follow-up to Devil May Cry 5 despite its success. The company is also set to release Onimusha: Way of the Sword on September 4, which it hopes will become a major IP.
Market reaction and future plans
Capcom's earnings report highlighted Pragmata and catalogue titles as key drivers of revenue growth. The company's strong first-quarter performance sets a positive tone for the rest of 2026. However, with multiple franchises in development, the timing of a Pragmata sequel remains uncertain.
