BBC fans are eagerly anticipating a new comedy series that blends artificial intelligence with human relationships. The sitcom, titled Ann Droid, stars Sue Johnston and Diane Morgan, and is set to premiere on BBC iPlayer in July 2026.
Plot Overview
The series follows Sue (Sue Johnston), a widower whose son Michael (Paul Ready) gifts her an AI AnnDroid Z58/100 Basic Eldercare Robot named Linda (Diane Morgan). The six-episode show explores the unlikely friendship between Sue and the humanoid robot, designed to provide companionship and monitor health for the elderly.
However, Sue is initially unimpressed with the gift, viewing the robot as her worst nightmare. But she soon discovers she can use Linda to settle scores and accomplish tasks her son neglects. The synopsis describes it as a buddy comedy between an older woman and a robot that is socially less advanced than it is technically.
