Battlefield 6 will be free to play for a week starting August 18, coinciding with a new Top Gun crossover update. The announcement came with a brand new trailer from EA, revealing the collaboration as part of the mid-season update for Season 4, which focuses on naval warfare.
New Fighter Sweep Mode and Jets
The Top Gun crossover introduces a new Gauntlet mode called 'Fighter Sweep', where players can only spawn in two-seater jets, competing in dog fights to earn kills and capture objectives. Two new air vehicles are added: the F-74A Seacat and the F/A-81F Super Spectre.
Top Gun Cosmetic Items
New cosmetic items will be available for purchase, including character skins for Rooster, Bob, and Warlock from the Top Gun Maverick movie, played by Miles Teller, Lewis Pullman, and Charles Parnell respectively. Tom Cruise does not appear in the collaboration.
Free Trial Details
The free trial runs from August 18 to August 25 across all platforms, including PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. It grants access to the multiplayer portion of Battlefield 6. Progression earned during the free week will carry over to the full game, which players must purchase after the trial ends. Redsec, the game's battle royale mode, remains free to play all year round. The update also includes Wake Island, a reworked version of a classic Battlefield map.
