During his speech, Albanese said: 'We can't ignore AI or prevent it. And it's why we joined with other nations this week to call for action to shape artificial intelligence development, rather than be passively shaped by it.'
The prime minister referenced the Medicare hack as an episode that reflects the need for stronger oversight of AI technologies.
Pitch for UN Security Council seat
Albanese also used the address as a pitch for Australia to join the UN Security Council, highlighting the country's position on global issues including AI governance.
