Racehorses took centre stage in Liverpool ONE on August 22, giving members of the public the chance to meet the sport's equine stars in the heart of the city. Organised by Great British Racing, Thomas Steers Way was transformed into an "urban racing yard", offering visitors an opportunity to get up close with racehorses and learn more about life behind the scenes of British horseracing.
Interactive experiences and celebrity visitors
The free event featured a range of interactive experiences, with visitors able to meet racehorses, try their hand at riding like a jockey with guidance from Racing to School and some of Britain's best-known jockeys, watch live farrier and physiotherapy demonstrations, and discover the specialist equipment used to care for racehorses throughout their careers.
The day included a visit from retired racehorse Reignman and marked the opening day of National Racehorse Week. It was attended by TV stars including winner of The Traitors season three, Leanne Quigley, and First Dates star, Laura Tott.
National Racehorse Week programme
National Racehorse Week, now in its sixth year, runs from August 22 to 31 2026. Organisers say the event is designed to introduce the sport to new audiences, particularly families and those who may never have visited a racecourse.
The nationwide programme of events taking place across England, Scotland and Wales encourages visitors to learn more about the sport.
