Paris Saint-Germain head coach Luis Enrique said he was not happy with his side being 3-0 up against Manchester City at half time, as he feared complacency could cost them. The defending Champions League holders raced into a three-goal lead at the break during Wednesday night's clash at the Etihad Stadium.
Goals from Desire Doue, Ousmane Dembele and Vitinha looked to have settled the contest. However, City came out fighting in the second half and made the French club work hard for the win.
City's second-half fightback
Erling Haaland pulled one back shortly after the break, and City had numerous chances to score a second before Maghnes Akliouche's strike re-opened the three-goal lead. Enzo Maresca's side kept pushing, and Haaland completed his brace with 15 minutes remaining, but PSG held out for a big win in Manchester.
In his post-match press conference, Maresca revealed that Enrique admitted to him they were fortunate to beat City.
Enrique's honest assessment
Speaking in his own media duties, Enrique said: "How proud am I? It's hard to say because the match had very different moments. In the first half, we showed what we want to do as a team, but I don't like going into half-time with a 3-0 lead."
"Most think the game is won, but it's never the case and even with less luck, we can lose this kind of game. We suffered a lot in the second half, they deserved to score more goals. With a bit of bad luck, we could have lost this match."
What's next for City
He concluded: "PSG vs Barca next? Being the best team at this stage of the season is not the most important thing. The most important thing is to be the best team at the end of the season."
City have the chance to respond to Wednesday's defeat on Saturday when they host Ipswich Town. The Blues will then return to Champions League action next Tuesday when they welcome AEK Athens to the Etihad Stadium.
