Eatflix Tynemouth: First films announced for new 5D cinema

Eatflix has announced the first two films for its new cinema in Tynemouth: 1970s classic Jaws and the 1991 festive favourite Home Alone. The screenings will take place in the Palace buildings, where work is underway to transform the historic site into a luxury 5D cinema.

Classic blockbusters to open the venue

Owners Joe and Ollie Brack selected the two films to launch the venue. Joe said: "We had to open with Jaws as a nod to the coastline we sit above. Bringing such an iconic film to life through Eatflix, right here in Tynemouth, felt like the perfect way to kick things off."

He added: "Home Alone was a no brainer for us, to really set the tone. We've always said our aim is to make Eatflix a Christmas tradition for families from across the North East and further afield, and what better way to start than with arguably the most popular Christmas film of all time? We want to create something families look forward to coming back to year after year."

Growth from pop-up to dedicated venues

Eatflix began as a pop-up event at Joe and Ollie's bar Alfie's on the outskirts of Newcastle city centre, becoming a sell-out success. The brothers then opened a dedicated space in an old dance hall on Chillingham Road in Heaton, which welcomed its first guests, including several Newcastle United first team players, at the start of 2025.

Over the last 18 months, the cinema has hosted eat-along screenings themed around films from Scream to Mean Girls and Grease to Shrek, with food and drinks served on cue to match what is on screen. The Tynemouth expansion was announced in August, with the venue set to sit next to another of the brothers' businesses, Surfers.

Pre-sale updates available

Joe said of the project: "My brother Ollie is project managing the whole thing and has absolutely smashed it, there's something happening every day. Seeing it all take shape is making us even more excited to welcome everyone through the doors."

Pre-sale updates for both films are now available to sign up for.
