Barcelona are reportedly ready to move for Harry Kane if his contract talks with Bayern Munich don't go to plan. Kane has entered the final year of his deal with Bayern, who are aware of interest from elsewhere in the England captain.
Kane's prolific form at Bayern
Kane has scored a ludicrous 146 goals in 147 appearances since joining Bayern from Tottenham in a £86.4million deal in the summer of 2023. He is now 33 years old, but is showing no signs of slowing down as the most prolific goalscorer in Europe.
Bayern are ready to offer Kane fresh terms to keep him in Bavaria and the need for action is clear. The Daily Mail reports that Barca are monitoring the situation and have made their interest known.
Contract talks and Barcelona interest
Kane is seeking a three-year deal to extend his stay in Germany and could use Barcelona's interest, and that of Saudi Arabian side Al-Hilal, as a bargaining chip. Barcelona have signed Anthony Gordon, Rodri and Karim Adeyemi so far this summer, but could do with another forward after selling Ferran Torres to Paris Saint-Germain and allowing Robert Lewandowski to leave upon the expiry of his contract. At this stage it seems unlikely that Barca could muscle in on Kane's talks with Bayern.
"We obviously said we wanted to talk after the World Cup and after my holiday," Kane said this week. "So I'm not sure exactly when, but they'll start this week, next week... we'll start those talks. Like I've said before, we're calm, I think they're calm with the situation."
"Obviously now is the time to start talking, because there's only a year left. That's important. But both sides are relaxed, and I'm pretty sure there'll be some talks this week or next week."
Ballon d'Or contender
He scored 61 goals in 51 appearances in all competitions last season as Vincent Kompany's side completed a league and cup double. And his form is such that Kane is a contender for the Ballon d'Or.
"The Ballon d'Or is as big as it gets, from an individual point of view," he said. "I know I had a great season last season, but the focus is on this new season."
"The Ballon d'Or's not in my hands. I've done what I can do in terms of putting in the performances. It's now down to votes and other people and the media - stuff I can't control - so we'll see what happens."
"Obviously, it would be amazing if it was to happen. But ultimately, it's still two or three months away before that's decided so it's not something that's at the front of my mind right now."
