Wan-Bissaka nears West Ham exit, medical booked for Villa

Aston Villa have agreed a deal to sign West Ham right-back Aaron Wan-Bissaka on loan with a mandatory buy clause. Standard Sport understands that Wan-Bissaka will undergo a medical shortly ahead of joining Unai Emery’s side in time for the start of the Premier League season.

Wan-Bissaka's West Ham struggles

The 28-year-old had been widely expected to leave West Ham this summer and was not included in the matchday squad for their Championship opener away to Burnley. He made 25 Premier League appearances for West Ham last season but was unable to prevent them from being relegated.

The former Manchester United and Crystal Palace defender fell out of favour towards the end of last term, starting five of West Ham’s last seven league games on the bench.

Aston Villa's right-back competition

Aston Villa, meanwhile, have been in the market for a new right-back to provide competition for Matty Cash.

West Ham's summer exodus

Wan-Bissaka is the latest player to leave West Ham this summer, with Mateus Fernandes, Crysencio Summerville, and Niclas Fullkrug among those to depart the club. Fernandes and Summerville joined Tottenham and Al-Hilal, respectively, for combined fees of around £145million, while Fullkrug has sealed a season-long loan to Bundesliga side Werder Bremen.

West Ham are also working on bringing in a number of players before the end of the transfer window and are close to sealing a move for Leeds striker Joel Piroe. Piroe has undergone a medical ahead of moving to West Ham on a season-long loan with an obligation to make the move permanent if the Hammers achieve promotion.
