Manchester United's hopes of signing Joaquin Seys this summer are in tatters, with a deal 'out of the question' this summer. Club Brugge are adamant that their left-back will remain at the club and are prepared to reject a record offer.
The 21-year-old has already started all three of the Belgian side's matches this season after racking up 55 appearances last term, scoring five goals and providing eight assists. With Seys established in the team, the Juniper League side are not prepared to let him go, according to reports in Belgium.
Record offer not enough
United have yet to place a bid for the full-back, but even if club chiefs make an offer that matches what Arsenal paid for Christos Tzolis, it will not be enough to alter Brugge's thinking. The Gunners paid £34million to land the winger earlier in the summer.
Seys has also been linked to Arsenal, Aston Villa and Newcastle, as well as Portuguese giants Benfica and Porto. It appears as if interested parties will be forced to be patient if they want to sign the Belgium international, however.
Brugge's stance
That is despite Brugge boss Ivan Leko previously admitting that it is not easy for the club to say no to significant offers. Seys has three years remaining on his contract.
Leko said: "If there’s a lot of money on the table, it’s obviously not easy to say no. The board’s aim is still to build a team that’s even better than last season.
"The right time to leave will come. Tzolis has proved that. Let’s hope they’re all still here in September."
United's alternatives
United are keen to add a left-back to Michael Carrick's squad with limited options at his disposal. Luke Shaw is in the final year of his contract, while Patrick Dorgu is now preferred further upfield.
Seys marks the second time United have come across a player who appears not to be for sale after their attempts to land Lewis Hall were turned down by Newcastle.
Racing Santander ace Jorge Salinas remains another option. The 19-year-old has a release clause in his contract, making him more easily attainable.
