Liverpool target Adam Wharton wins rare Gerrard shirt on eBay

Crystal Palace midfielder Adam Wharton, a reported £78m Liverpool transfer target, was left beaming after winning a signed Steven Gerrard shirt on eBay Live. The shirt, from Liverpool's 2005 Champions League-winning celebrations, was purchased for £410.

Shirt Auction Win

A clip of Wharton bidding on the shirt via eBay Live emerged on social media, using the screenname @whartttty. Wharton was spotted nervously waiting for the auction to tick down before placing a final bid of £410 on the celebratory shirt, which was adorned with 'European Champions Istanbul 2005' and featured Gerrard's signature in the centre above the Carlsberg sponsor.

As the auction closed and he was announced the winner, Wharton said: "We got it," while rocking backwards on his chair. The clip then cut to the 22-year-old outside, explaining that the shirt had finally arrived.

Shirt Arrival and Reaction

Wharton said: "So the shirt from Icon Memorabilia's live stream has just arrived - here it is. What a beauty that is." The camera then showed the shirt laying on a sun lounger.

The 2005 Champions League final, held at Istanbul's Ataturk Olympic Stadium, saw Gerrard captain his boyhood club to a penalty shootout win over AC Milan in one of the most memorable finals of all time.
