Liverpool Near First January Signing Amid Man City Battle

Liverpool are closing in on their first signing of the January transfer window, with talks underway for Senegalese teenage defender Mor Ndiaye. The 18-year-old, who plays for second-tier side Amitie FC, impressed at the Under-17s World Cup and is expected to join Liverpool's Under-21s squad.

The Reds are also monitoring Crystal Palace defender Marc Guehi, who saw a move to Anfield collapse on deadline day in the summer. However, Manchester City are now reportedly keen to sign Guehi, with manager Pep Guardiola not ruling out a January move despite playing down expectations of a busy window.

City are also set to trigger Antoine Semenyo's £65million release clause, having seemingly beaten Liverpool to the Bournemouth forward. Meanwhile, Liverpool's pursuit of Guehi faces competition from Bayern Munich and Barcelona, with the England international out of contract in the summer.
