Ruben Amorim has apologised to Manchester United supporters for his mistakes during his first press conference as AC Milan's head coach. The Portuguese manager was sacked by United in January after 14 months in charge, with the club citing a lack of progress and evolution under his 3-4-3 system.
Amorim's Regret and Apology
Speaking at his official unveiling in Milan on Wednesday, Amorim expressed regret for not addressing United fans sooner. 'I didn't have the opportunity, and I'm sorry for that, I didn't have the opportunity to say something to the Manchester United fans at the moment,' he said. 'I'm really proud to be their coach for a year in that time.'
When asked what he learned from his United tenure, Amorim acknowledged his shortcomings: 'It's hard to explain the mistakes because for that I would have to explain the context of the last adventure. The only thing I can say is that I learned a lot and I made some mistakes.' He added that he will try to change certain things and believes he will be a better manager as a result.
Carrick's Success at United
Following Amorim's dismissal, Michael Carrick was appointed as his successor and guided United to a third-placed finish in the Premier League, securing Champions League qualification. Meanwhile, AC Milan finished fifth in Serie A, earning a spot in the Europa League for the upcoming season.
Amorim's Focus on Milan
Amorim emphasised that his focus is now on his new role at Milan. 'But now it's a different history,' he said. 'There are a lot of things that I could do better in the last experience but sometimes it's like that, you need to learn to find the right spot to reach a different level and that's my thinking here.' He concluded: 'Everyone learns from their experience. I learned a lot, I did some mistakes I will try to change, there are some things you will never change but I think I will be a better manager, that's all.'
