Carlos Alcaraz Spends £3.7m US Open Prize on Tattoos Against Parents' Wishes
Alcaraz Uses Prize Money for Tattoos, Defying Parents

Tennis superstar Carlos Alcaraz has marked his latest Grand Slam victory in a permanent way that is likely to raise eyebrows at home. The Spanish champion has followed through on a promise to get two new tattoos commemorating his 2025 US Open win, a move that seemingly goes against his parents' wishes.

A Costly Celebration of Victory

In September 2025, Carlos Alcaraz clinched his sixth major title at Flushing Meadows, defeating rival Jannik Sinner in a thrilling four-set final. The triumph was monumental, not only restoring him to the world number one ranking but also landing him a staggering £3.7 million in prize money. Soon after lifting the trophy, the 22-year-old revealed he would spend a small portion of that windfall on body art.

Alcaraz has developed a ritual of getting inked after major career milestones, though he had initially assured his parents this would only happen after a first-time tournament win. Despite this being his second US Open title, he proceeded with his plan, unveiling the fresh designs on his right arm via social media just before Christmas with the caption "My week lately."

New York's Icons Immortalised in Ink

The two new pieces pay homage to iconic symbols of New York City: the Statue of Liberty and the Brooklyn Bridge. They join an expanding personal gallery of tattoos that document his Grand Slam journey. This collection already includes a small strawberry for his maiden Wimbledon win in 2023 and an Eiffel Tower commemorating his first French Open success in 2024.

The tradition began with his breakthrough US Open win in 2022, when he had the date of the final, "11.09.22", etched onto his arm after beating Casper Ruud. He also sports the letters "CCC" on his forearm, an acronym for the Spanish phrase 'cabeza, corazon y cojones' (head, heart and balls), a tribute to his grandfather.

Parental Approval and Future Plans

Alcaraz has been candid about needing his parents' blessing for tattoos in the past. Following his Roland Garros victory, he admitted he hadn't been entirely honest about how frequently he intended to get new ink. "I told my parents just to calm them that it was just the first one in every major," he confessed. "Probably I'm going to put the date of this one next to last year's. I have to discuss with them."

However, after his latest US Open win, his resolve was clear. "I'm gonna do two things," he stated. "I had a bet at the beginning of the tournament: the Brooklyn Bridge, and obviously the Statue of Liberty. I'm gonna do both. And the date. Because this one is special. I have to get a tattoo twice."

His tattoo ambitions extend further. Last year, he indicated he would add Olympic rings with the date 'Paris 24' if he won gold, a dream postponed after a loss to Novak Djokovic in the final. With the Los Angeles Olympics and many more career milestones on the horizon, Alcaraz's skin may yet become a full canvas celebrating a legendary tennis career, parental concerns notwithstanding.
