South Africa defeated England 32-12 in the inaugural Rugby Nations Championship final at Twickenham on Saturday, with winger Cheslin Kolbe scoring two tries to lead the Springboks to victory.
Dominant First Half
The Springboks established control early, with Kolbe crossing the line in the 12th minute after a break from Damian de Allende. Fly-half Handré Pollard converted and added a penalty to give South Africa a 10-0 lead. England responded with a penalty from Owen Farrell, but South Africa struck again before halftime when Kolbe finished a sweeping move from a lineout. Pollard's conversion made it 17-3 at the break.
England's Fightback Falls Short
England started the second half strongly, with Farrell kicking two penalties to reduce the deficit to 17-9. However, South Africa's physicality and defensive discipline proved decisive. A try from flanker Pieter-Steph du Toit in the 58th minute, converted by Pollard, extended the lead to 24-9. England's Freddie Steward scored a late try, but South Africa had the final word with a try from replacement scrum-half Cobus Reinach, converted by Pollard to seal the 32-12 win.
Historic Achievement
South Africa coach Rassie Erasmus praised his team's performance: "This is a special moment for South African rugby. The players executed the game plan perfectly, and I'm incredibly proud of their effort." The victory marks South Africa's first title in the newly formed Nations Championship, which features the top 12 teams from the Six Nations and Rugby Championship.
