Hunter Urges England to Stay in the Moment Ahead of World Cup Final

Former England captain Sarah Hunter has advised the Red Roses to remain focused and calm as they prepare to face Canada in the Women's Rugby World Cup final. Hunter, who was part of the victorious 2014 side that defeated the same opposition in Paris, now serves as a defence coach under head coach John Mitchell.

Hunter, England's most capped player, emphasised the importance of staying in the moment and trusting the game plan. Reflecting on the 2014 triumph, she recalled how the team felt relaxed and confident, knowing their roles and executing them without overcomplicating the occasion.

The final at Allianz Stadium, Twickenham, is set to attract a record crowd of around 82,000, marking a significant milestone for women's rugby. Hunter noted the stark contrast to her first World Cup in 2010, when pool matches were held at Surrey Sports Park and the final at the Twickenham Stoop.

Four players from the 2014 winning squad—Alex Matthews, Marlie Packer, Emily Scarratt, and Natasha Hunt—remain in the current team. Hunter's experience and leadership are expected to provide a calming influence as England seek to win the World Cup on home soil for the first time since 2014.
