Osaka Reaches Wimbledon Second Week for First Time

Naomi Osaka produced a dazzling performance to dismantle Daria Kasatkina 6-2, 6-0 on Friday, advancing to the fourth round of Wimbledon for the first time in her career. The former world No. 1, now ranked 11th, needed just 57 minutes to dispatch the 13th-seeded Russian on Centre Court.

Osaka broke Kasatkina's serve five times and won 83% of points on her first serve, according to tournament statistics. The four-time Grand Slam champion hit 22 winners to just eight unforced errors, showcasing the form that has earned her two Australian Open and two US Open titles.

“I’m just really happy to be through,” Osaka said in her on-court interview. “I’ve been working hard on grass, and it’s paying off. The crowd was amazing today.”

Historic Achievement on Grass

Osaka had never previously advanced beyond the third round at Wimbledon, with her best result being a third-round appearance in 2018. This year, she has dropped just one set en route to the second week, defeating Petra Kvitová in the second round before her straight-sets win over Kasatkina.

The 26-year-old Japanese star will face either Ons Jabeur or Marie Bouzková in the fourth round. A potential quarterfinal matchup against world No. 1 Iga Swiatek looms, should both players continue their winning runs.

Kasatkina Unable to Find Rhythm

Kasatkina, who reached the quarterfinals at Wimbledon in 2018, struggled to cope with Osaka's power and precision. The Russian committed 18 unforced errors and managed only two winners in the second set as Osaka closed out the match in emphatic fashion.

“Naomi was just too good today,” Kasatkina said afterward. “She served really well and put me under pressure from the start. I couldn’t find my game.”
