LA28 Board Reaffirms Casey Wasserman's Leadership Following Epstein Files Review

The executive committee of the LA28 board has confirmed that Casey Wasserman will continue to serve as chairman of the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics organising committee. This decision follows a detailed review of his past interactions with Jeffrey Epstein and Ghislaine Maxwell, which were highlighted in recently released government documents.

Review Finds No Evidence of Wrongdoing

On Wednesday, the executive committee convened to assess Wasserman's appearance in the Justice Department files concerning Epstein. The documents revealed that in 2003, Wasserman exchanged flirtatious emails with Ghislaine Maxwell, who was later accused of assisting Epstein in recruiting and sexually abusing victims. However, Wasserman has not been accused of any illegal activities related to Epstein.

LA28 conducted a thorough investigation with the assistance of an external legal firm, with Wasserman providing full cooperation throughout the process. The executive committee stated, "We found Mr. Wasserman's relationship with Epstein and Maxwell did not go beyond what has already been publicly documented."

Strong Leadership Cited as Key Factor

In their official statement, the committee emphasised Wasserman's decade-long leadership and his contributions to the Olympic preparations. They concluded, "The Executive Committee of the Board has determined that based on these facts, as well as the strong leadership he has exhibited over the past ten years, Mr. Wasserman should continue to lead LA28 and deliver a safe and successful Games."

This endorsement underscores the board's confidence in Wasserman's ability to oversee the upcoming Games, despite the scrutiny sparked by the Epstein files. The decision aims to ensure stability and focus as Los Angeles prepares to host the Olympics in 2028.
