A powerboat driver has died after crashing into a houseboat during a major international racing competition in Suffolk. Police confirmed the incident occurred on Thursday just after 7pm at the Oulton Broad Water Sports Centre near Lowestoft.
The victim has been named as Brett Duncan, 51, who died at the scene despite efforts to save him. The crash was described as a 'lone racing accident' and no other injuries were reported.
The East of England Ambulance Service, Coastguard and a volunteer paramedic from Suffolk Accident Rescue Service attended. The Circuit Powerboat Association confirmed Duncan's identity and expressed shock and sadness at his passing, offering condolences to his family.
The Marine Accident Investigation Bureau has launched an investigation into the collision. Suffolk Constabulary said they are working closely with partners and other agencies.
