Sandown Nap: Charlie Mason
Tony Carroll's Charlie Mason, a son of Mayson, carries a 5lb penalty after winning at Lingfield Park last Saturday. The gelding failed to win in his first seven starts of 2027 but returned to form last weekend. Myla Coppins rode him in a six-furlong handicap at Lingfield, while Rossa Ryan takes the reins today. Charlie Mason won by a length and a half from Tyger Bay. Despite the penalty, he is only 1lb worse off compared to his revised mark of 76. The ground-versatile performer will be hard to beat if he repeats his last run in the Chris Barnett Memorial Handicap (Division I) at 1.38.
Chester Next Best: Star Cast
At Chester, Star Cast is expected to run well in the Chester Fillies' Handicap at 4.20. Trained by Gemma Tutty, this daughter of Almanzor has won three times this year and was narrowly denied a fourth at Carlisle on Monday, beaten a short head by Amancio after leading inside the final furlong. Returning quickly to the track, she competes from an unchanged mark and can go one better.
