Top jockey Kieren Fallon has been charged with conspiracy to defraud as part of a £1 million investigation into alleged horse race fixing. The six-time champion jockey was among 28 people answering bail at Bishopsgate police station in London on Tuesday.
Fallon, who won the Irish Derby on Sunday, was released on bail and is due to appear at City of London Magistrates' Court on 17 July. Former racing syndicate director Miles Rodgers was also charged with conspiracy to defraud and an offence under the Proceeds of Crime Act.
Two other jockeys, Darren Williams and Fergal Lynch, were charged with conspiracy to defraud, while Joanne Richardson, Darren Armitage and Brian Tilkington were charged under the Proceeds of Crime Act. The City of London Police investigation, codenamed Operation Crypton, has been ongoing for over two years, examining more than 80 races.
The probe was sparked by irregular betting patterns on the internet exchange Betfair, which passed records to the Jockey Club. Six people have been released from bail without charge, including trainer Karl Burke.
