Charles Leclerc discovered at the Austrian Grand Prix that his Ferrari teammate Lewis Hamilton enjoys privileges he does not. During an on-stage interview at the Red Bull Ring, Hamilton expressed a desire to skydive into the track, revealing that his contract allows him to pursue the hobby. Leclerc, surprised, asked if Ferrari permits it, and Hamilton confirmed. Leclerc replied, 'They don't with me,' adding jokingly, 'They don't trust me, maybe, with a parachute.'
The exchange highlights the perks of Hamilton's seven world championships, which enabled him to negotiate such freedoms when joining Ferrari. On track, Hamilton has outperformed Leclerc recently, securing his first Ferrari Grand Prix victory in Barcelona after two podiums, while Leclerc has crashed out of the last two races.
Former F1 driver Juan Pablo Montoya urged Leclerc to learn from Hamilton. Speaking to the Pit Lane Torque podcast, Montoya said, 'I think this is a really good lesson for Charles to understand why Lewis is so f***ing good.' He advised Leclerc to ask Hamilton how he transformed his Ferrari performance, noting that Leclerc is fast enough but needs to understand Hamilton's approach to become a world champion.
