Frederic Vasseur slammed Ferrari's "very poor" execution after a series of mistakes ruined Lewis Hamilton's Hungarian Grand Prix. Hamilton, who qualified second, was demoted three grid places for impeding Oscar Piastri, then received a five-second time penalty for pit lane speeding during his final stop, dropping him behind teammate Charles Leclerc to fifth. Ferrari's decision to pit both drivers under a Virtual Safety Car late in the race gifted third place to Kimi Antonelli.
Vasseur Fumes Over Mistakes
"This is not a good result at all. We cannot be satisfied with this. We made too many mistakes today, beginning with the two starts," Vasseur said. "Everything went wrong. The execution was very poor."
Speeding Penalty Margin
Hamilton's speeding offence occurred during his final pit stop. He was clocked at 80.1 kph in the pit lane, just 0.1 kph over the 80 kph limit. Vasseur noted the FIA's tolerance is 80.05 kph, and Hamilton's speed was recorded at 80.06 kph. The FIA previously allowed up to 0.9 kph over the limit before tightening the tolerance in recent years.
Hamilton's Recent Penalty Streak
Hamilton has now received four penalties in his last three race weekends. He trails championship leader Antonelli by 50 points. After the race, Hamilton commented on the radio: "Every opportunity I give those stewards... every single time they give me a penalty." Later, he acknowledged he has been giving stewards reasons to punish him.
Vasseur Defends Hamilton
Despite the recent run, Vasseur is not concerned about Hamilton's disciplinary record. He categorized the collision with George Russell at Spa as a "race incident" and said the Hungarian issues were a "succession of mistakes" stemming from a locked wheel during the pit stop, leading to an early release.
