Swansea City boss Vitor Matos faces an anxious wait to discover the extent of Ben Cabango's injury as he faces a potential centre-back injury crisis.
Cabango limped out of Swansea's 0-0 draw with Sheffield United on Saturday, in a game that yielded precious little in terms of attacking quality from either side. Matos is awaiting further assessments but confirmed the Wales international was withdrawn just after the hour due to a concern over a foot injury.
Matos waiting on Cabango assessment
"Ben felt something on his heel," Matos said. "We are assessing, so let's see."
Swansea have already potentially lost Cameron Burgess for the season after the Australian ruptured his Achilles in the Carabao Cup tie with Birmingham City on the opening day. As things stand, Stephen Welsh and Filip Lissah could potentially be the only viable senior options left at his disposal.
Depth needed at centre-back
"We need to sort a problem when the problem arises to us," Matos added. "At the moment nothing has arisen so let's see how it goes. We still don't know. It doesn't seem to be anything major. So we need to see."
Matos was keen on adding another centre-back to his ranks even before the injury to Burgess, and it remains to be seen whether this latest scare will accelerate any plans. "I think that's clear that it's a position that we need depth and that's what we are trying to do," Matos confirmed.
