Newcastle injury scare as Toure faces assessment after Coventry defeat
Newcastle injury scare as Toure faces assessment

Bazoumana Toure will be assessed at the KNOX ahead of Newcastle United's Saturday night clash against Aston Villa at St James' Park. The Ivory Coast youngster came on after 59 minutes against Coventry City last night during the 4-1 defeat, but was then substituted for Dan Burn in stoppage time after a challenge left him rolling on to the track on the left wing.

Toure's brief lift before late collapse

Toure's arrival had given Newcastle a brief lift as he asked questions of the home defence and built up some momentum before Sven Botman's stunning strike. But he was also part of United's late collapse as Coventry rounded up a 4-1 scoreline, and Toure was then forced off.

Afterwards, head coach Matthias Jaissle said: "Let's see. It's too early to say anything. Hopefully it's nothing serious."

Potential blow for Newcastle's lineup

On a night when Newcastle had welcomed back Dan Burn, Joelinton, Amar Dedic and William Osula, the loss of the flying winger would be a major blow. Given poor displays for Harvey Barnes and Jacob Murphy, there would be every chance of the ex-Hoffenheim man getting a start against Villa.

Jaissle has explained why he had not made changes in the game at half-time with Newcastle clearly struggling at the CBS Arena. The Newcastle head coach said: "Unfortunately, the management of the players is the way we look at it. We have to be smart, we have had so many injuries already and we have to follow the advice there."

"So we'd took up the limit (maximum time they could play) on these guys. I'm happy that they are there but it will also take a couple of weeks until they're physically at their best again. So you need to figure out (the best time)."

Ramsey return on the horizon

Newcastle could welcome back midfielder Jacob Ramsey for the encounter with his old club on Saturday night. Ramsey is back in training but did not feature against the Sky Blues. Ramsey suffered a thigh injury in the warm-up against Leeds United last month and is edging back to fitness.
