Guimaraes Honoured by Casemiro Successor Praise

Bruno Guimaraes has spoken of his honour at being named Casemiro's successor ahead of Brazil's World Cup 2026 opener. The Newcastle captain, valued at £69 million, has been linked with a move to Manchester United to fill the void left by Casemiro's summer exit.

Guimaraes Focused on World Cup

Speaking to AS, Guimaraes said, "It's certainly a privilege to hear those words from someone as successful as Casemiro. Honestly, I'm not thinking about that right now. My focus is entirely on this World Cup. It was a dream for me to be in good shape for a World Cup and my aim is to help Brazil win this title. I'm always ready to help."

The 28-year-old is one of several midfielders on United's radar, along with West Ham's Mateus Fernandes and Bournemouth's Alex Scott. United are also expected to complete a £39m deal for Atalanta's Ederson.

Casemiro's Praise

Casemiro first praised Guimaraes in October 2023, calling him "a player who has been doing an exceptional job at Newcastle. With every practice and every game, I am more comfortable with him. He is a great player. He has been demonstrating this in the most difficult league in the world."

Newcastle are reluctant to sell their captain, but financial pressures may force a sale after they finished 12th in the Premier League and failed to qualify for Europe.
