Phil Foden suffered a suspected broken hand during Manchester City's 2-0 derby defeat at Old Trafford, manager Pep Guardiola has confirmed. The England midfielder was substituted at half-time, adding to City's growing injury list.
Guardiola revealed that defensive reinforcements are imminent, with Marc Guehi set to join from Crystal Palace for £20 million. The England international was omitted from Palace's squad to face Sunderland as manager Oliver Glasner accepted his captain is likely to leave.
City are currently without defenders Josko Gvardiol, Ruben Dias and John Stones. Guardiola praised Max Alleyne's performances in their absence but acknowledged the need for additional options. 'I don't know yet officially for my club. Apparently it's close but Ferran and Hugo didn't tell me anything,' he said.
Foden, City's second-highest scorer this season with 10 goals, could miss crucial fixtures including Champions League matches against Bodo/Glimt and Galatasaray, as well as a Premier League trip to Liverpool next month.
Guardiola also criticised the decision not to send off Manchester United's Diogo Dalot for a studs-up challenge on Jeremy Doku in the 10th minute. While the Premier League deemed the contact 'glancing', Guardiola insisted it was a red card but refused to blame the defeat on the decision. 'It is easy for me to come here and say it should be a red card. It is not about that, we will not grow up if that is the argument to win or lose a game,' he said.
