An FA Trophy match between Basingstoke Town and Dorchester Town was abandoned on Saturday after Dorchester's Wes Fogden suffered a serious neck injury. The 37-year-old player-coach went down under a challenge in the 33rd minute, with unconfirmed reports suggesting he was caught by a knee to the head.
Fogden received treatment for six minutes before the game was halted and both sets of players left the pitch. Basingstoke confirmed on social media that Fogden had been safely transported to hospital in an ambulance.
Dorchester released a statement on Sunday confirming that scans revealed two fractured vertebrae in Fogden's neck, which will require him to wear a neck collar for several weeks. The club noted that Fogden was conscious and talking when taken to hospital.
Fogden began his career at Brighton & Hove Albion and had spells at Bournemouth and Yeovil Town before rejoining Dorchester for a fourth time in 2024. Both clubs have been praised for their swift response to the incident.
