Arsenal forward Gabriel Martinelli is facing a lengthy spell on the sidelines after sustaining a knee injury in training, manager Mikel Arteta has confirmed.
The club announced on Tuesday evening that the 19-year-old had suffered cartilage damage to his left knee during a session on Sunday. Further tests are required to determine the full extent of the injury.
Speaking at a pre-match press conference, Arteta said: 'We had some really bad news yesterday. In training in the last action he got hit by another player. He's damaged his knee, the doctors are assessing the extent of the injury but it's not looking good at all.'
Arteta added that Martinelli is expected to be out for 'months', describing the injury as traumatic rather than muscular. The Brazilian joins a growing list of Arsenal casualties, including Bernd Leno (out for 4-6 weeks) and Pablo Mari (out for two to three months).
