Tennent's Sixes returns: Rangers and Celtic lead legends line-up

The Tennent's Sixes indoor football tournament has returned after a 33-year absence, with all 12 Scottish Premiership clubs fielding teams of club legends at Glasgow's Braehead Arena this weekend.

The competition, which last took place in 1993 when Partick Thistle won at the SECC, is being revived with the official backing of the SPFL. Rangers lifted the first crown in 1984, while Celtic and Rangers combined won just three titles during the tournament's original run.

Format and participants

Saturday's group stages will feature three regionalised groups of four teams, with each group winner and runner-up advancing to the knockout stages alongside the two best third-placed sides. Every game will have a winner, with a bonus point awarded for a penalty shootout win in the event of a draw. The sin bin is also making a comeback.

All 12 current Scottish Premiership clubs are taking part: Aberdeen, Celtic, Dundee, Dundee United, Falkirk, Hearts, Hibs, Kilmarnock, Motherwell, Rangers, St Johnstone and St Mirren.

Tournament history

Aberdeen and Hearts each won the tournament twice, while Hibs and Dundee also lifted the trophy during the 10 editions staged between 1984 and 1993. The action is being shown live on Premier Sports.
