Newcastle United held an open training session at the KNOX this morning, with head coach Matthias Jaissle watching on as at least two of his key players took part in front of the media.
Brazilian star Joelinton and Nico Gonzalez were both in action in front of the cameras, while it is understood that Dan Burn is back in the building and on course for a return against Coventry City.
Injury Updates
Joelinton has missed the entirety of the season so far due to a muscle issue, while England international Burn suffered an ankle injury just days before the season kicked off.
Gonzalez missed the 2-1 win over Hull City due to a concussion but has gone through the head injury protocols and is in line for a return. There was no sign of other injured players such as Amar Dedic, Tino Livramento, Jacob Ramsey or William Osula during the open training, but there are also not understood to have been any setbacks.
Training Session Details
With Lukas Hornicek in action for Czechia in the UEFA Nations League tonight against England and Ewen Jaouen away with France Under-21s, the only three keepers present were Nick Pope, Mark Gillespie and Aidan Harris.
The outfield players went through a series of strength drills with youngsters like Mason Miley and Miodrag Pivas involved before they took part in a session without goalkeepers. The goalkeepers were then waved over and the open session ended.
Joelinton's Return
Newcastle next play on October 12 when a clutch of stars are expected back, with Jaissle hopeful of good news before then. Joelinton had told Chronicle Live last week: "The plan is to be back now after the international break. I am feeling really good. I have worked hard and worked smart, I can't wait to be back and be with the team, the boys and the new players and in front of the fans again."
"I would not say it has been good because I have not been able to play or do what I love. I want to help the club and the boys on the pitch at this moment. But I am recovering, and I am feeling good now. It has been a long journey since the end of last season, when I had my first injury, then came back and felt it again."
The aim for Joelinton will be an injury-free run in the team after last season was disrupted four times through various issues. After getting to the bottom of the problem with the new medical team, Joelinton has confidence that can happen.
He said: "Now I am feeling better and I can't wait to be back on the pitch, I can't wait to wear the shirt again and play for the fanbase again, I have really missed it."
