Kane top scorer but Bellingham can be England's greatest

Harry Kane is England's greatest-ever goalscorer, but he is not yet the greatest-ever player, according to a former England international.

Kane is already England's top scorer with 89 goals and will equal Peter Shilton's record of 125 appearances at Wembley tonight. He is described as England's best-ever striker, a wonderful leader and captain.

Ballon d'Or and the trophy question

The argument that Kane must win the Ballon d'Or, otherwise the award might as well be scrapped, is made. However, the reason he is not talked about as the best-ever player is the trophy.

Jude Bellingham is the player with the potential and capacity to become the greatest-ever player, and it is believed he will become that player. Bellingham is the best player seen in an England shirt, but neither he nor Kane can be the greatest until they win a trophy.

Bellingham's special qualities

Bellingham gives England's men's team their best chance of ending the wait for a major trophy. Sir Bobby Charlton, because of the World Cup victory in 1966, is considered England's greatest-ever player until this point.

Some might see Sir Geoff Hurst as that player because of his hat trick at Wembley, which effectively won England the trophy. Comparing between eras, generations and teams is difficult, with the pace of the 1966 final slower and the game different in tactics and formation.

A superhuman athlete

Bellingham looks super human, an athlete who is strong, powerful and has a magnificent physique, and cannot be knocked off the ball. He is intelligent, articulate and still only 23, in line to win his 60th cap at Wembley and could win 200 caps.

Bellingham dominates games, as he did against Croatia and even against Spain at Wembley, like no other England player seen in the best part of 30 years of covering them. He struggled with a shoulder injury for more than a year and had a hamstring issue last season, but this form is about him and this is his brilliance.
