The long-awaited all-British heavyweight clash between Tyson Fury and Anthony Joshua has been confirmed for December 11 at Cardiff's Principality Stadium, with the bout to be broadcast globally on Netflix at no extra cost for existing subscribers.
After a decade of anticipation, the fight is set to be one of the biggest in recent history, with both fighters tipped to receive around £75 million. The event is expected to start at 1am local time on Saturday, December 12, with organisers considering a late start to cater for audiences in the United States.
Netflix pricing vs traditional PPV fees
A standard UK Netflix subscription in 1080p resolution with adverts is currently £7.99, while the standard option without adverts is £13.99. This is in stark contrast to the traditional Pay-Per-View (PPV) fees that UK fight fans have grown accustomed to paying for the biggest boxing events.
To put the cost into context, Fury vs Oleksandr Usyk's first heavyweight title bout in May 2024 cost £24.95 on Sky Sports Box Office and £24.99 on TNT Sports Box Office. The same price points were used for their second showdown, which Usyk won again, in December 2024.
Joshua vs Usyk in September 2021 cost £24.95 on Sky Sports Box Office, while their follow-up bout in August 2022 set a historical record high for UK PPV pricing at £26.95. Other high-profile PPV bouts such as Joshua vs Daniel Dubois (September 2024) and Floyd Mayweather vs Conor McGregor (August 2017) cost £19.95.
Promotion and fighters' recent form
Joshua vs Fury is being promoted as a collaboration between Saudi boxing powerbroker Turki Alalshikh's The Ring and UFC chief Dana White.
"Two of the best heavyweights of this generation, finally in the ring together," Alalshikh said. "This will be one of the biggest fights in boxing history. I am very happy to make this fight happen for the fans."
Both fighters go into the bout off the back of their respective wins in July. Fury stopped Mariusz Wach in the seventh round of their non-televised bout in Thailand, while Joshua recovered from being floored twice by Kristian Prenga before stopping the Albanian in the second round.
"I am inspiring a generation," Joshua, 36, posted on Instagram. Fury, 38, is yet to comment on the announcement.
