Celtic have been told Eddie Howe would consider taking over at Parkhead – if certain conditions are met.
Howe was on the verge of being appointed Hoops boss in 2021 but after three months of talks, the Englishman pulled out as he failed to convince his backroom staff to move north.
Celts eventually appointed Ange Postecoglou and Howe later went on to become a success at Newcastle United, earning successive Champions League qualifications and winning the Carabao Cup.
Howe's current situation
The 48-year-old stepped down in the summer after almost five years in charge and has once again been heavily linked with the Glasgow post.
Martin O'Neill is currently in the hotseat but the veteran gaffer threw fresh doubt over his future after three defeats on the spin – including back-to-back derby drubbings.
Out-of-work Howe has been tipped as a future England boss, while the ex-Bournemouth boss has also been mentioned as a possible replacement for under-pressure Michael Carrick at Manchester United.
Bartley's verdict
But Stenhousemuir gaffer Marvin Bartley – who knows Howe well after playing under Howe at the Cherries – believes a move to Celtic isn't out of the question.
He told Clyde One Superscoreboard: “I wouldn’t be as surprised as others if Eddie Howe ended up at Celtic.
“Yes, he’s from the south of England, but he loves that big club feel.
“When he went to Newcastle, I don’t think he realised how big they were.
“Celtic are a different level to them. I think that sort of thing could interest him.
“I don’t think his next move will be based purely on finances, it will be the size of the club and the project and if he’s going to be given all the keys to go and sign the players he wants and not be told who to sign.
“He needs to be a manager; he won’t accept being a head coach. He already spends a lot of time in Scotland playing all the golf courses.”
