Bradley Barcola has acknowledged he could face sanctions for his comments about a penalty decision during France's Nations League victory over Belgium. The Liverpool winger fell to the floor following a challenge from Nathan Ngoy, but the referee did not award a spot-kick.
"If I talk about it, I'm probably in trouble, but I have to say what I think," Barcola said. "I felt the contact. I was inside the box and I was trying to continue the action."
Barcola's frustration over decision
"Maybe the referee saw it differently, but from where I was, it affected the play. What frustrates me most is that these decisions can change a game. You work for 90 minutes and sometimes one moment decides everything," he added.
"I don't want to complain about referees in the Nations League or Premier League, I just want consistency. If there is contact and it affects the attacker, at least take another look. I'll probably get fined for saying this, but honestly, I thought it was a penalty."
International break updates
Barcola and Jeremy Jacquet have both contributed to France's perfect start in the Nations League during the four-match international break, which has reached its midpoint. Meanwhile, Andoni Iraola has seen Alexander Isak and Cody Gakpo leave their national team camps early. Isak's injury appears relatively minor, while Gakpo may face a longer spell on the sidelines.
Liverpool eye teenage prospect
Uruguayan winger Nicolas Scotti has emerged as the latest young prospect reportedly attracting Liverpool's attention, according to South American reports. The 16-year-old is understood to have a release clause worth just under £6million. Capable of operating on either flank, he registered a goal and an assist on his debut for Uruguay's Under-18s in August.
Scotti is presently registered with Defensor Sporting, the Montevideo outfit where 2010 World Cup stars Sebastian Abreu and Maxi Pereira began their careers. He has already featured for the first team in league competition but has yet to find the net at senior level.
