Nick Woltemade could work to attract Bayern Munich this season, as his future with Newcastle United remains up in the air. The 24-year-old joined the Magpies last summer in a £69million move from VfB Stuttgart, but failed to live up to expectations during his maiden Premier League season.
Mixed start at Newcastle
While the German striker made a bright start, bagging four goals in his first five games, Woltemade's form sharply declined - to the point that Eddie Howe started depending on him as an attacking midfielder instead of leading the line.
After racking up a tally of eight goals and three assists, Woltemade was deemed surplus to requirements upon Matthias Jaissle's arrival - ultimately joining Juventus on a season-long loan.
Bayern's lingering interest
While Bayern were also interested in the centre-forward last summer, it appears as though the Bavarians' interest has since dwindled. However, as per Christian Falk, he could utilise the Nations League and his season in the Serie A to once more pique the club's interest.
Speaking with CF Bayern Insider, Falk said: "Now, he has the chance to perform in Jürgen Klopp’s squad with the German national team. There, he can show exactly what kind of striker he can be. But at the moment, there’s no idea of trying to try and bring the 24-year-old to Bayern Munich."
"Of course, it goes without saying that if Woltemade does well for the national team, there’s always an option for Bayern. That’s because the club is always on the lookout for opportunities to fill the squad with quality German nationals – as many as they can get."
International fixtures ahead
Woltemade will have ample time to impress on the world stage in the coming weeks, with Germany set for four matches in total during the late September and early October international break.
Klopp's men first take on the Netherlands at 7.45pm on Thursday evening at the Johan Cruyff Arena in Amsterdam, before meeting Greece at the WWK Arena on Sunday. A showdown with Serbia at the Allianz Arena then lands on Thursday, October 1, before another outing with Greece unfolds three days later at the Toumba Stadium in Thessaloniki.
