Sergio Garcia has announced he will return to the DP World Tour for the next season, revealing a renewed focus on his mindset and mental health after his outburst at the Masters in April.
The Spaniard made headlines during the final round of the Masters when he smashed his driver against a water cooler containing bottles for players and caddies. The impact snapped the shaft of his club in two, forcing him to finish the round without a driver. Tournament official Geoff Yang, chairman of the Masters competition committee, subsequently issued him with a warning for breaching the code of conduct.
Garcia's social media update
Sharing an update on X, formerly known as Twitter, Garcia wrote: "Hey guys! Wanted to share some updates with you all. This off season, I'm working really hard on my game and putting a big focus on a strong mindset and mental health. Next season I'll be playing on the DP World Tour. This tour has been a huge part of my career from the very beginning, and I'm proud to call it home again."
He added that he is keeping his options open for a return to the PGA Tour, and described strengthening personal relationships as "probably the most exciting part for me." He expressed his eagerness to return to the Masters, saying: "I left Augusta last year disappointed with myself and my actions, and I'm ready to show what I've learned and where I am mentally."
Ryder Cup ambitions
Garcia has set his sights on an 11th Ryder Cup appearance in 2027 after confirming his return to the DP World Tour following his departure from LIV Golf. He is Europe's all-time leading points scorer in the competition, having collected 28.5 points across 10 appearances, with his most recent outing coming at Whistling Straits in 2021.
The 46-year-old, who has won 11 PGA Tour titles throughout his career, will be unable to return to the American circuit until August 2027 due to the 12-month suspension imposed on players who competed in LIV Golf events. The Masters will return in April 2027, while the Ryder Cup is scheduled to take place in mid-September.
