Oxlade-Chamberlain agrees new Celtic contract extension

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain is set to sign a new one-year contract at Celtic, according to a report from Sky Sports. The 32-year-old former Liverpool and Arsenal midfielder joined the Hoops on a short-term deal in February after being convinced to move by manager Martin O'Neill.

Oxlade-Chamberlain's Impact at Celtic

Oxlade-Chamberlain made 12 appearances for Celtic, scoring twice, as the club secured a Scottish Premiership and Scottish Cup double. His contract included an option for an additional year, which he has now reportedly agreed to take up.

According to Sky Sports, Oxlade-Chamberlain's happiness working under O'Neill and the manager's desire to keep him were key factors in his decision to extend his stay. The England international is said to have turned down offers from other clubs across Europe to remain at Celtic Park.

Iheanacho's Departure

The news comes as Celtic reportedly opted not to extend the contract of Kelechi Iheanacho. The 29-year-old Nigerian striker arrived on a free transfer last summer and scored crucial goals in the closing weeks of the season, helping O'Neill's men secure the double.

However, The Sun reports that Celtic chose not to activate the option to extend Iheanacho's deal, and he is now set to leave the club. Several teams from Turkey's top tier are said to be interested in signing the former Manchester City and Leicester City forward.

Celtic's Summer Plans

With Oxlade-Chamberlain committing his future to the club, Celtic are expected to continue strengthening their squad under O'Neill. The manager's influence has been pivotal in attracting and retaining talent, as demonstrated by Oxlade-Chamberlain's decision to stay.
