Bob MacIntyre squandered a four-shot lead in the final round of the BMW Championship in Maryland, as world number one Scottie Scheffler produced a stunning chip on the 17th hole to secure victory. MacIntyre, who had held a significant overnight advantage, started Sunday with two bogeys, allowing Scheffler to close the gap to a single stroke.
The Scot, seeking a win to guarantee his place in Europe's Ryder Cup team, fought back but could not match Scheffler's momentum. The American's remarkable chip from the rough on the penultimate hole effectively sealed the win, leaving MacIntyre to finish with a three-over-par 73, two shots behind Scheffler's 15-under-par total of 265.
Scheffler's victory was his 18th on the PGA Tour and fifth this year, marking the second consecutive season he has achieved that feat, a milestone previously reached only by Tiger Woods. MacIntyre had produced a memorable 41-foot putt on the final hole on Saturday to retain his lead, but could not replicate that magic on Sunday.
Tommy Fleetwood shot a final-round 67 to tie for fourth place behind American Maverick McNealy, while England's Harry Hall fell back with a 70 to finish sixth. Rory McIlroy, hampered by back-to-back double bogeys on the fifth and sixth holes, also carded a 70 to finish tied for 12th.
