Adam Scott, the 2013 Masters champion, has failed to qualify for the FedExCup Playoffs after a disappointing performance at the Wyndham Championship. The Australian finished tied for 55th on Sunday, ending his hopes of competing for the Tour Championship's top £7.8 million prize.
Scott had described the Wyndham as a 'do or die' tournament, but his sub-par performance saw him finish the regular season in 90th place, outside the top 70 who advance to the FedEx St. Jude Championship. The 45-year-old will now miss the three-event playoff series.
Despite the setback, Scott showed his true character with a positive message on social media. 'Didn't quite make the playoff push I was hoping for, but grateful for the journey and more motivated than ever,' he wrote. 'Back to the grind and eyes on the next one. See you at the BMW PGA Championship in September!'
The FedEx St. Jude Championship, starting this week, will feature world No. 1 Scottie Scheffler, who returns after his Open victory. However, current Masters holder Rory McIlroy will be absent by choice, having decided to skip the event after a poor performance last year.
The playoffs will see the field cut from 70 to 50 after the first event, then to 30 for the Tour Championship at East Lake in Atlanta on August 21. All who make the final field will also automatically qualify for next season's eight signature events.
