Adam Scott's hopes of qualifying for the FedExCup Playoffs have taken a major hit after the Australian star missed the cut at the Wyndham Championship. The 2013 Masters champion now faces a nervy wait to see if he'll make the postseason.
Scott needed a strong performance in Greensboro to secure his place in the top 70 of the FedExCup standings. However, rounds of 71 and 69 left him at even par - two shots shy of the cut line.
Playoff Hopes on Thin Ice
The 44-year-old currently sits 72nd in the standings, with only the top 70 advancing after this week's tournament. Scott now faces an anxious weekend watching other results before the final field is confirmed.
"It's disappointing," Scott admitted after his round. "I came here with high hopes of playing well and securing my spot, but golf doesn't always cooperate. Now I'll have to wait and see how things shake out."
Final Chance at FedEx St. Jude Championship
Should Scott slip outside the top 70, he'll have one final opportunity at next week's FedEx St. Jude Championship. However, only the top 50 after that event progress to the BMW Championship.
The Australian has been a mainstay in the Playoffs since their inception in 2007, making every edition until now. His consistent performances have seen him reach the Tour Championship on eight occasions.
Season of Near Misses
Scott's 2024 campaign has been one of frustration, with several near misses including a T4 at the Genesis Invitational and T5 at the Wells Fargo Championship. His putting has been particularly inconsistent, ranking 144th in Strokes Gained: Putting.
"I've played some good golf this year but just haven't been able to put four rounds together," Scott reflected. "The game's there, I just need to find that little bit extra when it matters most."
With the Playoffs looming, time is running out for the veteran to rediscover his best form and extend his remarkable postseason streak.
