Tomas Soucek scored on his return from an ankle injury as West Ham beat Wycombe 2-0 in a behind-closed-doors friendly on Friday. The 31-year-old has been out of action since the end of June after sustaining a blow to his left ankle during the Czech Republic's final World Cup group game against co-hosts Mexico.
Soucek starts and scores in comeback
Soucek has since been eased back to fitness by West Ham and has yet to feature for the club in a competitive fixture this season. However, he started and played 65 minutes for the first time in over three months against third-tier Wycombe, opening the scoring from the penalty spot before striker Joel Piroe later doubled West Ham’s lead at Rush Green.
Championship return against QPR
West Ham return to Championship action next Friday at home to London rivals QPR as they look to further underline their promotion credentials after fighting back from 2-0 down to draw with arch-rivals Millwall before the extended three-week international break.
Brentford draw with Norwich in friendly
Brentford continued their preparations for the return of competitive club football as they came from two goals down to draw 2-2 with Norwich in their own behind-closed-doors friendly at the Gtech Community Stadium. Keane Lewis-Potter and Fabio Carvalho, who has been in fine form since returning from an anterior cruciate ligament injury, were both on the scoresheet for the Bees.
Igor Thiago, Callum Wilson, Rico Henry and Jaidon Anthony also featured against Championship opponents Norwich, and Brazilian striker Thiago thought he had won the match for Brentford late on, only to be denied by the offside flag.
