Van Gerwen Withdraws From Second Darts Event For Medical Reasons

Michael van Gerwen has withdrawn from another darts competition, pulling out of this weekend's Poland Darts Open due to a medical issue. The Dutchman also missed Thursday's Premier League night in Glasgow for the same reason.

The Poland Darts Open, part of the 2026 European Tour, takes place in Krakow from February 20-22. Van Gerwen's absence, along with that of Gerwyn Price, has led to Michael Smith and Callan Rydz being added to the 48-player field as direct replacements.

A PDC statement confirmed: 'Gerwyn Price and Michael van Gerwen have withdrawn from this weekend's SUPERBET Poland Darts Open due to medical reasons.' Price withdrew after Night Three of the Premier League, while Van Gerwen was unable to recover from the issue that ruled him out of the Glasgow event.

Van Gerwen had started the Premier League season strongly, winning Night One and finishing runner-up on Night Two. However, he was forced to withdraw from Night Three, with Luke Littler receiving a bye to the semi-finals.

The Poland Darts Open features world number one Luke Littler and former world champion Luke Humphries among the star attractions, with a £35,000 prize for the winner.
